ABOUT COACH FLOYD

Hello everyone!!

My name is Lane Floyd and thank you for taking the time to review my class website.  If you are a student or parent know that I am I am excited about working with you throughout the year and looking forward to a great time.  I am here to help all students and want to see everyone succeed in the area of mathematics.

Here is a little information about me:

I grew up in Covington, Georgia and I am the youngest of three boys with my brothers being 15 and 11 years older than I am.   You could say that I was just a little bit of a surprise to my family!

I am in my 3nd year of teaching mathematics at Sprayberry High School.  Prior to teaching at Sprayberry I taught 8th Grade Mathematics at Lindley Middle School in Mableton, Georgia and 9th-12th mathematics at Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, Georgia.  While at Chattahoochee I taught QCC Algebra II, QCC Geometry, GPS Algebra, GPS Geometry, GPS Advanced Algebra, and Advanced Mathematical Decision Making.  I have also served as an adjunct instructor with Georgia Virtual School teaching Accelerated Mathematics I, Mathematics II, CCGPS Coordinate Algebra, CCGPS Analytic Geometry, Pre-Calculus/Analysis, and CCGPS Pre-Calculus.

Prior to teaching I did web development and project management in the Atlanta area.  Looking back part of me wishes that I had gone straight into education after college but the other part of me is glad that I have the experience which allows me to bring the "outside" perspective to my students and classroom

Outside of the classroom I am the head cheerleading coach for Sprayberry High School as well as a coach at the Stingray Allstars.  I have been involved in cheerleading and gymnastics for over 25 years as either an athlete or coach.  However believe it or not cheer/gymnastics is not my first sport as I was a baseball player from the time I could walk throughout college (I was the starting catcher throughout my playing career for Newton High School, Gordon College, Chipola College, and Kennesaw State University)

Outside of school and coaching I love spending time with my family and friends, working in the yard, cheering on my beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston Red Sox, and Boston University Terriers.  I am a rare breed as I am a Georgia native who is not a fan of the Braves, Falcons, or Hawks.

The beautiful lady in the photos with me is my wife Erin.  We were married on September 6, 2015 at Kimball Hall in Roswell, Georgia.  You can watch our wedding at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV2hJb0fhBs.

In case you are interested,

I proposed during halftime of Chattahoochee High School’s first football game in 2011 with the entire crowd and our cheerleaders (we coached together) looking on.  You can view the proposal via the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uzYeRkgKQk.
