Words of Wisdom

I cam across the majority of this list a few years ago but have made modifications based on my own experiences or additional advice given.

1.    There are plenty of ways to enter a pool.  The stairs is not one of them

2.   Never cancel dinner plans by text message.

3.   Do not knock it till you try it.

4.   If a street performer makes you stop walking, you how him a buck.

5.   When entrusted with a secret, keep it.

6.   Do not underestimate free throws in a game of HORSE

7.   Just because you can does not mean you should

8.   Do not dumb yourself down

9.   You only get one chance to notice a new haircut.

10.  If you are staying more than one night, unpack.

11.   Never park in front of a bar.

12.  Expect the seat in front of you to recline.  Prepare accordingly.

13.  Keep a picture of your first cat/dog/fish, first car, and first girl/boyfriend.

14.  Hold your heroes to a high standard

15.  A suntan is earned, not bought

16.  Never lie to your doctor

17.  All guns are loaded.

18.  Do not mention sunburns.  Believe me, they know.

19.  The best way to show thanks is to wear it.  Even if it is only once.

20. Take a vacation from your cell phone, internet, and TV once per year.

21.  Do not fill up on bread, no matter how good.

22. A handshake beats an autograph.

23. Do not linger in the doorway.  In or out.

24. If you choose to go in drag, do not sell yourself short.

25. If you want to know what makes you unique, sit for a caricature.

26. Never get your haircut the day of a special event.

27. Be mindful of what comes between you and the Earth.  Always buy good shoes, tires, and sheets.

28. Never eat lunch at your desk if you can avoid it.

29. When you are with new friends, do not just talk about old friends.

30. Eat lunch with the new kids.

31.  When traveling, keep your wits about you.  No matter where you are. .

32. It is never too late for an apology.

33. Do not pose with booze.  It is unbecoming.

34. If you have the right of way, TAKE IT.

35. You do not get to choose your own nickname.

36. When you marry someone, remember you marry their entire family.

37. Never push someone off a dock.

38. Under no circumstances should you ask a woman if she is pregnant.

39. It is not enough to be proud of your ancestry, live up to it.

40. Do not make a scene.

41.  When giving a thank you speech, short and sweet is the best.

42. Know when to ignore the camera.

43. Never gloat​

44. Invest in great luggage.

45. Make time for your mother on your birthday.  It is a special day for her too.

46. When opening presents, no one likes a good guesser.

47. Sympathy is a crutch.  Never fake a limp.​

48. Give credit. Take blame

49. Suck it up every now and then.

50. Never be the last one in the pool.

51.  Do not stare.

52. Address everyone that carries a firearm professionally.

53. Stand up to bullies. You only have to do it once.

54. If you have made your point, stop talking.

55. Admit when you are wrong.

56. If you offer to help do not quit until the job is done.

57. Look people in the eye when you thank them.

58. Thank the bus driver.

59. Never answer the phone at the dinner table.

60. Forgive yourself for your mistakes.

61.  Know at least one good joke.​

62. Do not boo. Even the ref is someone’s son or daughter.

63. Know how to cook one good meal.

64. Learn to drive a manual/stick shift.

65. Be cool to younger kids.  Reputations are built over a lifetime.

66. It is okay to go to the movies or dinner by yourself.

67. Dance with your mother/father.

68. Do not lose your cool.  Especially at work.

69. Always thank the host.

70. If you do not understand, ask before it is too late.

71.  Know the size of your boyfriend/girlfriend’s clothes.​

72. There is nothing wrong with a plain t-shirt.

73. Be a good listener.  Do not judge your turn to talk.

74. Keep your word.

75. In college always sit near the front.  You will stand out immediately and come grade time it will help. 

76. Carry your mother’s bags.  She carried you for 9 months.

77. Be patient with airport security.  They are just doing their job.

78. Do not be the talker in a movie.

79. The opposite sex loves people who shower.

80. You are what you do.  Not what you say.

81.  Learn to change a tire.

82. Be kind.  Everyone has a hard fight ahead of them.

83. An hour with grandparents is time well spent. 

84. Ask for advice when you need it.

85. Do not litter

86. If you have a sister, get to know her boyfriend.  Your opinion is important.

87. You will not always be the strongest or fastest however you can be the toughest.

88. If you call someone before 9am or after 9pm expect that they will do the same to you.

89. Buy the orange properties in Monopoly.

90. Make the little things count.

91.  Always wear a bra to work.

92. There is a fine line between looking sultry and slutty.  Find it.

93. There is a fine line between having a good time and screwing around.  Find it.

94. Ladies, if you decide to wear heels on the first date commit to keep them on and do not complain how much your feet hurt.

95. Know the words to your national anthem.

96. Your dance moves might not be the best, but I promise you that making a fool of yourself is more fun than sitting on the bench alone.

97. Smile at strangers.

98. Make goals.

99. Being old is not dictated by your bedtime.

100. If you HAVE to fight, punch first and punch hard.

101.  A mistake made more than once is a choice.

102. Do not post pictures of presents received at Christmas, birthdays, etc. on social media.  

103. Say "thank you" if someone holds the door for you. 

104. When traveling to another country, learn to say "Hello," "Thank you," "Good Bye," and "Do you speak English?" in the native language.  They will appreciate the effort in learning their language. 

105. Guys, invest in a good pair of dress shoes.  Buy both black and brown if the same style is available. 

106. Guys, when wearing a suit your belt and shoes should always be the same color.

107. Guys, when wearing a suit a pocket square should compliment the tie, not match. 

108. Enunciate. 

109. What other people think of you is none of your business. 

110.  Give 110% 100% of the time.
